His film work includes Father Stu from Sony Pictures, opposite Mark Wahlberg; Fishbowl California, opposite Kate Flannery; and Single, which premiered at SXSW. Olson trained with Lesly Kahn, Margie Haber, Annie Grindlay, Scott Sedita, Andrew Wood, Jamie Renee Smith, and Stan Kirsch, and studied improvisation at The Groundlings and Acme Comedy Theater. He is a longtime musician, having played the piano and drums since he was a teenager.
