Jack Grimm

A successful businessman with a passion for maritime history, Grimm used his own resources to mount search missions in 1980 and 1981 that employed emerging deep‑sea sonar technologies. Although these expeditions did not ultimately find the Titanic, they were among the first to apply systematic acoustic surveying techniques to the deep Atlantic and helped pave the way for later scientific searches. Grimm’s efforts were documented in television specials such as Search for the Titanic (1981) and Return to the Titanic (1981). Beyond Titanic exploration, Grimm was known for his interest in historical shipwrecks and oceanographic research, working with scientists, engineers, and filmmakers to raise public awareness of deep‑sea exploration. He died in 2000 at the age of 90.
