He gained recognition with K. Vijaya Bhaskar's *Nuvve Kavali* (2000) and appeared primarily in comedic roles during the 2000s. His films from this period include *Nuvvu Nenu* (2001), *Nuvvu Naaku Nachav* (2001), *Manmadhudu* (2002), *Sontham* (2002), *Athadu* (2005), and *Dhee* (2007). He took on leading roles in S. S. Rajamouli's sports drama *Maryada Ramanna* (2010), followed by *Poola Rangadu* (2012) and *Tadakha* (2013). In the late 2010s and 2020s, Sunil appeared in antagonist and supporting character roles, including Mangalam Srinu in *Pushpa: The Rise* (2021) and *Pushpa 2: The Rule* (2024), as well as a role in Nelson Dilipkumar's Tamil film *Jailer* (2023). Over a career spanning more than 200 films, he has won three Nandi Awards, including Best Comedian and a Special Jury Award, and two Filmfare Awards South.
